Motivosity product’s philosophy is that engagement and recognition should come from the bottom up, not from the top down, which explains why the software is designed to be simple for employees to access via their mobile devices, Slack/Teams, and also easy to use with an interface that looks like a social platform vs. enterprise software.

Motivosity’s solution is based on three pillars: Building Community, Employee Recognition, and Manager Relationships. The platform enables employees to interact with their entire team via a Facebook-like social feed and recognize and reward peers for a job well done, while managers engage with their team members, see where their employees are going above and beyond, and understand and track employee engagement.

What’s also great about Motivosity is that it’s scalable. Users can upgrade plans and add additional products or team members as they grow.

Motivosity for management and leadership development has been a major area we employ. We use this to facilitate one-on-one and small group meetings between supervisors and their teams. It's been extremely helpful in getting everyone to participate and as they can add agenda items and plan in advance.

Performance has improved as a result because staff receives guidance on problem-solving and prioritizing work from their supervisor and they receive acknowledgment afterward. Also, the leadership team can see the reports on how often these meetings are happening and get a sense of how well our supervisors are performing.

We also use the recognize feature to reward the daily achievements and allow staff to recognize coworkers. Great work that often went unacknowledged or just was easily forgotten/overlooked now gets the attention it deserves. We found that everyone responds to this feature and that these small, regular acknowledgments tied to tangible monetary and gift rewards have really increased overall employee motivation and satisfaction and made doing great work rewarding and fun for our staff. We also set it up to make sure major events like an anniversary are not missed.

We also benefit from the surveys and feedback that leadership can see as insightful and data-driven reporting. It has been critical in getting information that was mainly anecdotal, unpredictable, and sporadic in the past. We use this for departing employees' exit interviews and to track turnover. Handling and understanding employee turnover had been overly informal and a bit chaotic before this feature, but we use the exit interviews and data to get a better picture of areas we need to focus on.

What do you like about this tool?

It improved employee morale and performance by offering ways for them to connect better with coworkers and supervisors and allowed ongoing, regular, and routine recognition rather than just major things like salary increases and promotions.

Leadership has gained a better sense of how our management is performing and increased the effectiveness of our supervisors at every level.

It's given us valuable data about how our staff are performing, employee turnover, and management performance in reports.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

We were concerned about employee engagement given the fact that a large number of employees were remote, and we have multiple worksites. Both factors created a sense of disconnect among the staff from both the company and their co-workers. It seemed to be harming employee morale and, consequently, employee productivity.

We were also very concerned about increased interpersonal conflict, declining employee retention and feedback that generally indicated dissatisfaction. We were also looking for a way to provide ongoing recognition and to attain ongoing feedback, because annual reviews and occasional surveys were not enough, and were not incorporated into the day-to-day culture.

We've used motivosity for about a year and a half. In that time, we've seen improvements in all these areas.

What do you dislike about this tool?

We were not thrilled with the customer support regarding questions about billing and technical errors.

The system seemed to have some technical issues and was sometimes really slow or even would crash.

Though it met our needs, there do appear to be products on the market that have more features for around the same cost.

How is this tool different than their competitors?

Having used a few similar products, I think Motivosity does a better than average job creating personalized connections between coworkers and social media-like content for staff members and was very good at fostering a sense of empowerment by management to the employees.

It allows for employees to recognize each other, not just management recognizing employees as is typically the case. Also, the user interface is very straightforward, intuitive, easy to navigate, and easy to use.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

A tool like this will very likely increase employee engagement and increase performance and retention, but people should consider the costs involved both in the product and in monetized rewards and recognition to staff.

Once you institute such rewards, taking them away may be poorly received by staff. Also, it requires leadership to support and endorse the efforts to use this product and without that, it may not be effectively deployed, especially if you do not have full participation.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

From my understanding, they have refined the features to focus better on reporting and on management development.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

Remote workers will especially benefit. It helps to replace some of the personal bonding and connection that usually happens through in-person interactions.

Organizations, where there is infrequent staff interaction, will also find a lot of benefits in both the sense of personal connection and regular recognition that can be lost when workers are not physically near each other often.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

An organization that highly values a top-down style of relationships may find that they don't value the degree to which employees are empowered to give feedback and recognition.

We use it for payroll processing, employee tracking, managing time off, and ensuring legal compliance in each country. Compliance is crucial, as Deel helps ensure we adhere to local employment laws. Additionally, it manages expenses and other HR processes for our non-US employees.

What do you like about this tool?

Deel simplifies the hiring process, particularly for contractors, making it incredibly user-friendly. The compliance features are invaluable, keeping us informed of legal changes across different countries. Moreover, the platform itself is straightforward and easy to navigate.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

Our organization needed a system that would enable us to quickly hire contractors in Europe while scaling with our growth. Deel was chosen for its clarity, ease of setup, and cost-effectiveness. Initially, it was used for managing our European contractors, but as we transitioned from contractors to full-time employees, Deel's capacity to handle EOR and contractors across multiple countries proved ideal. We have been using Deel for just over a year, starting with contractors and recently expanding to include EOR services for our European employees.

What do you dislike about this tool?

Navigating the platform can sometimes be confusing when trying to locate specific features. Currently, Deel does not support adding US employees, necessitating separate HRIS systems for our US and international staff. Additionally, we occasionally encounter unexpected fees.

Management applauds this valuable tool and its support of teams and people across capabilities, departments and projects. Bonusly is also used as a means to donate to different charities. The reporting feature is helpful to understanding employee engagement.

Bonusly offers diverse opportunities to acknowledge and commend team contributions in a meaningful and impactful way. The UI is quite easy to navigate and integration with Slack makes it so easy to send "fun recognition" to colleagues. The ability to utilize Bonusly across the globe is also a great benefit.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

I've used Bonusly with different organizations over the years. Bonusly absolutely achieves collaboration across teams/departments. It is a great way for peers to give kudos to each other via Slack (or other integrated platforms, as needed). I have multi-generational teams including Boomers to Gen Z-ers. Team members enjoy the ease of use, and the ability to recognize their teammates any time, day or night, and the ability to make it fun by adding memes, GIFs etc. to their posts.

What do you dislike about this tool?

The rewards are limited; not a lot of variety in gift cards. The need for a message and a mandatory hashtag can seem redundant and inconvenient. Automatic reminders to users to redeem points before they expire should be a standard feature. Additional choices for international employees would definitely be welcome!

How is this tool different than their competitors?

Bonusly is a great platform for daily recognition. I don't feel that Bonusly can truly compete with platforms such as Snappy, which offer more impactful gifts. Organizations truly do need both as an opportunity for keeping teammates and colleagues engaged.

Kudos can be used in multiple ways to track staff management, performance, recognition, and training. We used it for upskilling and tracking, as well as reward and bonus structures. The most used part of Kudos is enabling a workflow of appreciation through reward. We assessed multiple tangible and intangible values and qualities such as collaboration, happiness, creative thinking, time management, agility, innovation, and teamwork.

What do you like about this tool?

I like Kudos for its ease of use and seamless rollout across the organization. The recent integration of AI has improved functionality, reducing mistakes in responses and speeding up performance management reviews. Kudos offers intuitive ideas for reward and recognition in real-time, suitable for all roles within the business.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

Kudos was purchased to enable real-time tracking of staff recognition and management. We needed to address staff turnover and understand the reasons behind it, believing that staff reward and recognition were the most effective and cost-efficient solutions. Kudos offers a wide range of rewards, from gift cards to extreme experiences, catering to all staff levels. I have personally used Kudos for over two years and have a contract in place for its continued use.

What do you dislike about this tool?

The visuals on some boards and user limits can be limiting. It also lacks support for GIF files, which can be an issue for those who use them regularly. Additionally, while AI integration is beneficial, it can detract from the human element needed in areas like performance reviews and performance improvement.

We use assembly on a daily basis for employee recognition and engagement, and team announcements such as birthdays. We use assembly messenger every week amongst our HR team to share ideas. In addition to a quick way to retrieve company policies, one of the key workflows we use it for is onboarding.

What do you like about this tool?

I love the ability to recognize and reward employees in multiple ways. We love digital gift cards, peer nominations, and culture rewards. We are able to reward employees based on their motivation style. We also enjoy the survey feature.

Our company recently expanded and we wanted a centralized platform to assist us with employee recognition and engagement. Preferably one that was automated.

What do you dislike about this tool?

At this time there isn’t anything we dislike.

Assembly is very affordable and scalable for small businesses. The platform is easy to navigate and we enjoy the integrated training. Other platforms we demoed required us to call an account manager for most inquiries or training. It is also very user-friendly and was easy to roll out to our staff.

They should first have an internal employee recognition and performance management process in mind. This will help them determine which system is best for them. The next thing they should look for is if the tool aligns with their business needs and goals. Lastly, the level of complexity requires to implement and use the system on a daily basis. It needs to be user-friendly to drive employee use.

Assembly has evolved with the the level of integrations it offers. They have also created RecognitionGPT to help create professional recognition responses and announcements.

I liked that employees can recognize each other for accomplishments and a job well done. I like that employees can be recognized for their birthdays. I like that employees can be recognized for their anniversary each year.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

We purchased WorkTango to build employee morale and encourage team building and recognition amongst peers. This is another way to provide positive reinforcement to our employees and encourage them to work hard and love what they do! I used it for 2 years.

What do you dislike about this tool?

Some employees would complain about the shop and being hard to navigate. We would receive feedback that employees didn't think it was super user-friendly. We had technical issues occasionally that would take a little while to resolve.

We also like how straightforward their rewards program is; if a user puts in $5 to recognize someone, the recipient gets $5 to redeem. While my team initially adopted 15Five to utilize the OKRs portion of the tool, I would say the most beneficial features have been the weekly check-ins, 1:1s, and best self-reviews.

I love that these key functions are all streamlined into one location and from an HR perspective, make documentation more efficient and proactive. Tracking areas of the company that are struggling has never been easier in this regard.

My organization was having issues with cross-functional collaboration, understanding the areas of the business with the least efficiency, and monitoring employee engagement. To address these challenges, I recommended that the organization invest in a performance management tool.

When we were shopping for a tool to support this effort, we were specifically interested in tools that would not only streamline 360 performance reviews but also aid us in ongoing performance and engagement tracking as well.

While two years ago I had never formally used 15Five, 15Five was initially attractive because it combined all of the desirable features and even utilized OKRs - which was our leadership team's preferred method of goal setting.

At its core, OKRs are a collaborative goal-setting methodology, so even though adding a new tool or responsibility to employees' day can often feel disruptive, 15Five made this rollout more seamless.

15Five could improve its UX/UI in some areas,  specifically in the best self-review section, there are some portions of reviews that are not that intuitive to regular non-admin users.

15Five should improve its support functionality, it is frustrating that the only way to communicate with support is through email.

15Five should produce training modules for admins and employees, the help center is largely ineffective for employees using the platform for the first time.

I would say 15Five is very similar to Lattice. Both tools have their pros and cons, but overall I would say that 15Five measures up similarly to its competitors if companies are looking to utilize this kind of performance tracking.

One opportunity I would say for 15Five is that a lot of companies are wanting to simplify their performance tracking procedures so they are choosing to go with more metric-driven tools that produce custom reports.

Everyone wants to adopt a system to streamline these areas of the business, but I think a tool like 15Five can overcomplicate companies that do not have the resources to properly roll out a tool with such functionality.

I have been utilizing 15Five for almost 3 years and I would say I am not super impressed with the tool's ability to roll out product improvements. I think making foundational improvements to their support system, help center, and UI/UX would make a larger impact rather than offering opportunities to attend webinars or upsell leadership courses to companies already paying for the platform.
