Time Doctor stands out as one of the few time tracking software tools that makes it possible for users to invite their clients to access their dashboards and share some of their information.
Most time tracking software products combine other features with their main offering, and Time Doctor is no different. This software has a strong focus on productivity, which is evident in some of the employee monitoring features they provide.
An example of such is the screenshot feature. Time Doctor will take random screenshots of your employees’ screens as they work. And as a manager, you can view these screenshots together with the activity levels recorded when the screenshots were taken. These activity levels measure the keyboard activity per minute and mouse strokes per minute to give you an overview (in percentages) of how much work was done in a given time frame.
In addition to screenshots, Time Doctor also allows you to record videos of the user’s screen. To help users stay focused, Time Doctor sends “distraction alerts” when the user has been away from the computer for a while. These employee monitoring features can be intrusive and counter-productive because employees can be distracted with the number of screenshots and alerts that keep popping up as they work.
The reports feature is one of Time Doctor's strong selling points. It provides a total of eight reports namely the timesheet report, time use report, time use report, poor time use report, timeline report, web and app usage report, project report, and attendance report. These reports are detailed and helpful for managers to stay on top of their projects, work schedule, and workforce.
The timesheet report gives you an overview of time worked by users per each day. In this report, time worked is represented by little progress bars and the timeframe can be changed from per day to per week or month.
The time use report also shows you how much time is tracked per individual but the analysis is further broken down to include the different tasks the user worked on, as opposed to the overall time tracked in the timesheet report. Timeline report goes even more in-depth to show you exactly how users spent their time from the moment they started tracking with Time Doctor to when they logged off.
Poor time use report, as the name suggests, shows the time spent on unproductive websites. Web and app usage report shows all the applications each user had on as well as the time they spent on them while tracking time.
The websites and applications that will feature in this report would have been set as “productive websites and applications” by the manager. This ensures the productive websites and apps do not end up in the poor time usage report.
As to shifts, Time Doctor makes it possible for managers to assign work schedules. This feature works in hand with the attendance report to help you know if employees are coming in late to work, not completing the required amount of hours in a shift, or being totally absent.
It is quite straightforward to set up. It requires that the manager adds the shift’s start and end time, and the minimum amount of hours the employee should work per shift.
Tied to shift management, Time Doctor also offers payroll management. This feature automatically prepares payroll and works together with payment platforms to send payments to employees. It is also possible to prepare and send invoices within the software.
Another one of Time Doctor’s selling points is its ‘client access’ feature. This feature allows administrators to invite clients to their Time Doctor dashboard. Clients invited have view-only access and they can see the work your business has done/is doing for them.
This feature can be likened to how clients physically visit business organizations to be updated on work progress. It breeds transparency and fosters strong client-business relationships.
In the first quarter of 2022, Time Doctor released a new version called Time Doctor 2. This new upgrade has the same features as the old Time Doctor (now referred to as Time Doctor classic) with added perks. An upgrade to the classic Time Doctor app is the work-life balance feature.
With this feature, managers get ahead of employee well-being issues. It uses numerous data points such as if the employee is working long hours, late hours, or on weekends to predict how close the employee is to a potential burnout.

Liam Martin was running an online tutoring business and one of the problems he had was tracking time accurately. This problem was destroying his business and he knew he had to find a way to fix it.
Soon after, he met his would-be co-founder, Robert Rawson, in a conference in Austin, Texas. The two struck a friendship that turned into a partnership that brought about Time Doctor. They both discussed the concept of helping teams better utilize their time which, in turn, makes their businesses productive and healthier. That's how the name "Time Doctor" came about.
In a few short years, Liam and Rob bootstrapped their company to 8-figures earning $4 million in revenue with more than 140,000 paying customers.
