Insightful Review

Insightful functions majorly as an employee monitoring and productivity software, as well as a time tracker, providing solutions across industries and for several use cases. Launched just recently in 2016, Insightful has done well for itself in the time tracking and productivity market. In just 6 years, Insightful has recorded over 100,000 daily users, which is an impressive run for any app in this market; considering the many options.

The company was formerly Workpuls and it rebranded in early 2022 to Insightful as a result of their plans to pivot into the analytics and business intelligence sphere. So if BI is something your organization works with, you might want to bear this in mind.

Insightful and the Power of AI for Time Tracking

One of Insightful’s unique selling propositions is its AI technology. Not only does it provide second-by-second data about your employee’s activities, it also saves you time and money by predicting the time you will spend to complete a task or project based on past activities.

Still on the AI feature, Insightful’s platform records what is called employee biorhythm. This biorhythm keeps track of employee activities during the day to capture their productive, unproductive, and idle moments. It then uses these data points to calculate the times during the day when your individual employees are the least productive.

As a manager, this information can be very useful to manage your employee productivity. If, for example, you notice a certain employee becomes unproductive around say 10 - 11 am, you can suggest they move their break to that timeframe.

Insightful’s Employee Monitoring Features

Employee monitoring is one Insightful’s strengths. The app takes screenshots of employee screens to show what they are working on at the time and it tracks their application and web usage. Insightful takes this app and web usage tracking to another level by giving managers the ability to set certain apps and websites as productive, unproductive, or neutral.

Insightful will always send a prompt to your team members informing them whether the app they are currently using is productive or not. This way, employees and managers both share a collective responsibility on productivity levels.

Managers can also monitor their staffers in real-time. The real-time tracking dashboard will typically show the total number of employees you have, how many are currently working, those that are slacking, and your overall productivity level.

This productivity level is a real time update on your team's efficiency and is calculated using the data points from your employees web and app usage. For instance, they recommend keeping your productivity levels above 90% to get the best out of your team.

Other Notes on Insightful’s Reporting, Project Management, and More

Most products usually have a dedicated section for reports on their dashboards nut with Insightful, you can only access reports from other sections within the platform. For example, from the timesheets section, you can export this data as a report, which can be sent as a CSV or PDF.

Insightful’s project management features are very lightweight. You only get to set project budgets and assign tasks. The good thing about the project management features, however, is that Insightful assigns tasks automatically to your employees based on what they worked on before and their skill set. That takes the extra work of assigning tasks off your hands thereby freeing up time to.

Insightful is also privacy-oriented. Their AICPA SOC 2, ISO 27001 and GDPR compliance helps safeguard your data against breaches. If you are even more particular about data safety, Insightful offers self-hosting solutions too.

About Insightful

Insightful started as a solution to the problem Ivan Petrovic (CEO and founder) observed while working as a software developer for big tech companies. In his own words; “It surprised me how much time was wasted, poorly tracked, or not measured at all. And the companies that did monitor time often took a “spying” approach that was ineffective and counterproductive”. He decided to do something about it by creating Workpuls, launched in April 2016.

Four months later, in August of that year, Insightful was funded by two investors (South Central Ventures and StartLabs) in a seed round. This investment kickstarted the growth of the company that led to the acquisition of 100 customers in the beginning of the following year. The company was formerly Workpuls but has since grown to evolve from a time and productivity app to a more in-depth analytics software, which is why they rebranded to Insightful to reflect this progress.

As of April 2022, 115,000 users trust Insightful for their time and productivity tracking.
