We use it for recruiting on an as-needed basis. Once a freelancer is hired, Upwork is used continuously to track their hours and process payments, which is all done automatically. The contracting option on Upwork allows us to hire freelancers either hourly or based on a project, making it flexible for different needs.

We use Upwork to hire freelancers for specific tasks and to find more affordable tech freelancers. As a fairly young startup (4 years old), we have been using Upwork for about 3 years. It is one of the best when it comes to search, contract, and establish long-lasting relationships with freelancers in the market.
There is no annual fee to use Upwork for recruiting. We pay a 5% marketplace fee on all transactions, so the cost varies each year depending on who we hire.
- You sometimes have to weed out scammers, as there are a number of less legitimate freelancers on Upwork.
- When screening candidates, you can't send an email address, Calendly link, or Zoom link in your message. Upwork has become very strict about keeping conversations on the platform, which is understandable, but it makes scheduling interviews (e.g., for our CEO) more difficult. There are several reasons why YunoJuno has made it to our list of the best freelancer management systems. But if we had to narrow down what we liked about it most, it’d be its human-supported sourcing, contract management, and compliance features.
We found the platform’s design intuitive (see our above screenshot). However, given that things don’t always turn out as they seem, we decided to create a brief on the FMS to confirm our suspicions. And the system didn’t let us down (also, sorry, YunoJuno, for doubting you).
On top of an eye-catching UI, the workflows are straightforward. Not to mention, there are online documents available if you need a bit of instruction there. That said, YunoJuno primarily caters to freelancers in the creative, tech, and marketing industries, so it’s not as versatile for other sectors. While live chat and email support were responsive during our testing, we missed having phone assistance for more immediate concerns.
