To see the hiring process through to the finish line, Greenhouse’s onboarding module equips users with customization and automation features. I use Greenhouse daily. It is the hub of my work. I use it to post jobs, review applicants, communicate with candidates, share info with hiring managers, and to gather data. We also use it to develop a systemic approach to hiring.

We develop scorecards, competencies, and even set up internal approvals. We use it to publish jobs across many portals, including our careers page and other job boards.

What do you like about Greenhouse?
  • I enjoy the ease of managing candidates on Greenhouse. I can get a visual at any time as to the hiring stage of each role.
  • I enjoy the data the system produces, such as time to hire, candidate sources, and offer acceptance rates.
  • I enjoy being able to share hiring information with the hiring manager because, at a glance, they can see the interview scorecards of the panelists, structured feedback, and the interview documents.
Why did your organization buy Greenhouse, and how long have you used it for?

We were struggling to maintain the applicant tracking system and the employee files. We chose Greenhouse for its ease of use, setup, and learning, as well as its intuitive platform and price.

The system also helps us maintain the integrity of our document management and always be prepared for an audit. We have used it for about 5 years and really taken pride in building it out to our specifications. It is an easy tool to use.

What do you dislike about Greenhouse?
  • Greenhouse is sometimes clunky to use. It is only an applicant tracking system and does not have a CRM function, so I can't nurture passive or past candidates.
  • Setting up this system requires deliberate care. It is time-consuming, and users such as hiring managers have to be trained on how to use it. However, it will pay off if you do.
  • Greenhouse is for structured, specific recruitment of individual positions. It is not meant for mass recruiting and filling a funnel.
How is Greenhouse different than their competitors?

I love the structured hiring process. If set up properly, Greenhouse can do the work for you. This tool also stands out in the analytics it can provide, deepening recruitment process reporting and feeding leadership decisions. The entire pipeline is visible, which is vital for the hiring manager and assigned recruiters.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

Key criteria include the ability to track hiring volume and the hiring process. Some tools are good for high-volume hiring, while Greenhouse is better suited for structured professional hiring.

The system's ease of use and its adoption by hiring managers in the organization also matter. Corporate buy-in on the product is important, or else it will make recruiting an arduous task.

Greenhouse continues to evolve over the years, being responsive to the needs of their customers. It has evolved into a more comprehensive hiring platform. The platform has expanded to include stronger analytics, reports, and automation tools, which improve efficiency.

I use Greenhouse daily as the primary applicant tracking system for the organization. It supports end-to-end applicant workflows, from job creation and posting to candidate evaluation and hiring decisions.

Why did your organization buy Greenhouse, and how long have you used it for?

As the Director of Talent Acquisition for Sponsors for Educational Opportunity, I selected Greenhouse to address the need for a highly configurable applicant tracking system that could integrate smoothly with our existing technical stack.

One of the primary challenges we aimed to solve was managing complex hiring workflows without relying heavily on engineering support. Greenhouse integrated seamlessly with tools like Calendly for self-scheduling and supported SSO through Okta, which aligned with our security requirements.

The platform is GDPR compliant, which was critical for supporting international hiring across the UK and EU. The system’s workflows aligned well with our WHO hiring process and offered BI capabilities that allowed real-time reporting on key hiring metrics.

From a budget perspective, Greenhouse was within our price range and more cost-effective than Lever. The RFP and sales process was also more efficient and transparent compared to other vendors we evaluated.

Greenhouse supports the entire talent acquisition process, from posting and advertising job requisitions on your career site (or external posting sites) through the candidate application process and into the offer extension stage.

Depending on the step you are in, you can easily create different templates that can be duplicated based on your needs (e.g., job descriptions, emails, and offer letters).

The interview kits are well designed, allowing for easy customization depending on who is involved in the interview round. Tracking applicants and reviewing profiles is where we invest most of our time and effort, and the intuitive, clean UI provides a seamless experience for daily users.

The ability to migrate data from Greenhouse into our HRIS and background check screening service is an added benefit.

What do you like about Greenhouse?

I enjoy Greenhouse’s clean, intuitive UI that makes for a seamless user experience. Its robust API suite makes integrating with in-house tools much easier. The interview kits are intuitive to set up and help make hiring decisions more informed.

Why did your organization buy Greenhouse, and how long have you used it for?

As an organization with recruiters who have primarily used Greenhouse in the past and regard it as a "gold standard" in the ATS marketplace, we decided to invest in this tool for easier implementation and quicker adoption.

Our recruiters have praised its email templates, interview scorecards, job and offer approval processes, among other features, and find that adopting a tool they are familiar with allows for minimal disruption to their workflow.

We were migrating away from a legacy ATS that was less intuitive and outdated, and implementing a modern ATS like Greenhouse was a significant improvement. It also offers valuable API integrations compatible with our HRIS and background check screening service, which made onboarding more seamless for processing new hires.

Pricing is on the higher end compared to other ATS vendors, but we found the difference worthwhile given the investment required to become familiar with a new tool we weren’t accustomed to using.

What do you dislike about Greenhouse?

Greenhouse’s pricing structure is on the higher end, but the robust offering justifies the cost. The reporting capabilities are somewhat limited, which can make it challenging to draw meaningful conclusions from the available data.
