PROS

  • HireVue is very useful when it comes to screening a large number of job candidates in a short frame of time. Its virtual assistant can do an initial screen of applicants on its own, leave messages for them, and get responses in return. All of this frees up recruiters’ time.
  • It has a great on-demand interviewing feature. Recruiters can sit and watch candidates’ interviews as per their convenience. The ability to change the speed of the interview while watching can also help recruiters save time.
  • Their implementation team and customer support is extremely responsive or in the words of a Global Talent Attraction Director, “I love the support, tenacity and just constant desire to do the right thing. They take the time to understand our business and I never feel like it is a ‘catch and release’ relationship that is so common in this space”

CONS

  • HireVue is not very affordable compared to its alternatives, especially when you factor in the functionality. Their pricing plans are geared towards companies with at least 2500 employees and even then, you only get a small set of features.
  • HireVue does not have a lot of integration partners and the range of software it integrates with is also very limited (mostly ATS).
  • Too much automation can at times lead to unwanted candidates. For instance, the asynchronous interview feature can allow candidates to adjust their responses in order to fit the job criteria. However, HireVue wouldn’t screen such candidates out and your company may need human intervention to pick up on visual cues and body language.

HireVue Review

Designed to automate workflows and make mass hiring easy, HireVue is a hiring platform that has solutions for video interviewing, building interviews, assessments, scheduling, AI recruiting, and text-powered recruiting. It integrates with most companies’ tech stacks to reduce redundancy and double-entry of data.

One of the key benefits of video interviewing is the ability to conduct asynchronous interviews, a feature that HireVue offers alongside regular live interviews. Your candidates don’t need to download an additional app and they could also take the interview from their mobile phones. To create interviews, you can choose from over a thousand job-specific interview guides that are backed by organizational psychologists. Their team of organizational psychologists also works with you to create talent assessments, psychometric tests, and coding tests.

To speed up your hiring, you can make use of HireVue’s virtual hiring assistant that operates via text and converses with the candidates to address their questions and guide them towards their next step in the hiring process. This conversational AI can be used for scheduling, managing hiring events, and helping prospective candidates find a relevant position at your company. Compared to other conversational AIs in the market though, we found their AI assistant lacking human touch and addressing itself as a virtual assistant outrightly, which might discourage a candidate to converse with the AI and ask questions.

What users think of HireVue

Reviewer's Rating
8/10

We use HireVue for our hiring process, particularly for screening and interviewing candidates. As you may know, it is best known for its video interviewing capabilities, which is our primary use case. HireVue also provides AI-driven assessments after interviews to help identify candidates we should move forward with. From initial screenings to final interviews, HireVue has become an essential tool in our recruitment strategy.

What do you like about this tool?
  • The interview process is much faster because of on-demand video interviews.
  • The AI-powered assessments help us screen applicants more efficiently.
  • The platform allows our hiring team to share feedback and review video interviews at their own pace.
Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

We didn’t have a tool to organize and conduct interviews, so everything was done manually. As our company grew, we needed a tool that specialized in the hiring and interview process. That’s how we came across HireVue. We have used it for roughly 18 months, and it has been especially helpful for remote workers and interviews.

What do you dislike about this tool?
  • There are limitations in customizing the interview experience, such as question formats and candidate feedback workflows.
  • For a small company like ours, the platform can be expensive.
  • It is not as intuitive as expected, and new users may take longer to get familiar with it.
How is this tool different than their competitors?

HireVue stands out from competitors by prioritizing video interviewing and AI-driven candidate assessments. Its main selling point is the ability to conduct pre-recorded interviews, eliminating the need for employees to schedule and conduct live interviews. This significantly reduces the time spent on the interview process.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

When selecting a video interviewing tool like HireVue, it’s important to consider factors such as interview flexibility, AI capabilities, pricing, and integration with existing systems. If you have a high volume of applicants, AI-driven video interviews can save your team significant time compared to manual screenings.

Cost is another key factor, as the platform can be expensive. Be sure that the time saved justifies the investment.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

Initially, HireVue focused on pre-recorded video interviews, analyzing keywords to determine candidate suitability. Now, it includes AI capabilities that summarize and recommend candidates based on overall interview performance, making the software more similar to a real human interview experience. This improves both company efficiency and the candidate experience.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

HireVue is an excellent choice for companies with high-volume hiring needs or global recruitment efforts. Its video interviewing capabilities help save time and provide alternative interview options.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

HireVue may not be the best fit for smaller companies with low hiring needs. Additionally, if all interviews are conducted in person, this tool would not provide much value.

Reviewer's Rating

When used effectively, HireVue can help create a more comprehensive candidate profile before they enter the interview process. As part of recruiting, HireVue was used daily to screen and assess candidate competencies before advancing them to the interview stage. Workflows included various stages of the transition from sourcing to interviewing.

The tool also helped integrate multiple recruiting processes, allowing the team to focus on refining interview question design.

What do you like about this tool?
  • HireVue can create a comprehensive candidate profile far beyond what a resume can offer before a recruiter schedules an interview.
  • It offers significant customization options to tailor the interview experience.
  • The tool provides consistency, control, and structure in the screening process to help reduce bias in hiring.
Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

I have extensive, multi-faceted experience with HireVue. I have used HireVue as an interviewee, a consultant, and an administrator for approximately four to five years. The key challenge HireVue addresses is straightforward: candidate screening.

HireVue provides a solution that allows candidates to record and answer preliminary interview questions—often in video format—to streamline the recruiting process. At the time, my organization faced high turnover and needed to optimize the recruiting pipeline. Clients often have similar concerns.

What do you dislike about this tool?
  • HireVue can be extremely expensive.
  • The interface could be improved, especially given the price.
  • More advanced administrative features for analytics and unique recruiting needs would be beneficial.
How is this tool different than their competitors?

HireVue was one of the first platforms to focus on video screening and has established a strong reputation in this niche. AI-driven competitors such as Modern Hire, Spark Hire, and VidCruiter are emerging with advanced profiling capabilities, integrating non-video assessments and modern interfaces. It's difficult to predict which will lead the market.

HireVue takes a more measured approach, likely due to concerns about AI-driven bias in recruiting. While I appreciate the advanced features offered by new AI screening tools, I worry that recruiters might rely too heavily on them instead of using them as a supporting tool. This concern makes HireVue's approach appealing.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?
  • Determine your budget and expected ROI for an automated video screening tool.
  • Assess the volume, frequency, and complexity of your recruiting needs.
  • Consider how you want to manage the candidate experience throughout the hiring process.
How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

HireVue has been somewhat slow to evolve over time. However, this might not necessarily be a drawback, as the platform remains focused on its core features. There is still room for improvement in terms of interface customization and feature enhancements.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

Large organizations with high recruiting volumes, particularly those dealing with high turnover, seasonal hiring, or blue-collar workers.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

Small to mid-sized organizations that prioritize a more personalized recruiting experience, hire infrequently, or do not see a clear return on investment from automated video screening.

To create interviews, we selected from over a thousand job-specific interview guides developed by their team of organizational psychologists. These psychologists also worked with us to design talent assessments, psychometric tests, and coding tests tailored to our needs. The platform’s conversational AI supported scheduling, managing hiring events, and helping prospective candidates identify relevant positions. Using HireVue’s Interview Builder, we created structured interview questions, templates, and evaluation guides. We used HireVue daily for a month before switching to another solution that better fit our needs.

What do you like about this tool?
  • It is highly effective for screening large numbers of job candidates quickly.
  • The on-demand interviewing feature is excellent.
  • Customer support is extremely responsive.
Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

My organization sought to automate the interviewing process and decided to start with HireVue without conducting extensive research. One of the key benefits of video interviewing is the ability to conduct asynchronous interviews, a feature that HireVue offers in addition to live interviews. Candidates didn’t need to download an app and could take the interview directly from their mobile phones. The tool simplified the process of screening a large pool of candidates efficiently. We used this tool for about a month but switched to a more affordable alternative soon after.

What do you dislike about this tool?
  • It is not very affordable compared to its alternatives.
  • The number of integration partners is limited, and the range of software it integrates with is also narrow.
  • It does not effectively screen unwanted candidates, requiring human intervention to assess visual cues and body language.
How is this tool different than their competitors?

HireVue was the first virtual HR assistant for video interviewing and set the standard for this type of tool. However, its price is significantly higher than many of its competitors, which makes it less appealing for organizations seeking cost-effective solutions.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

Price is a major criterion when evaluating this type of tool. Consider the specific features your organization needs and whether HireVue’s offerings align with those expectations. While HireVue has great features, the cost may not justify its use for smaller organizations.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

I don’t believe it has evolved significantly to meet users’ needs.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?
  • Large enterprises with frequent hiring needs.
  • Companies with over 7,500 employees that can justify the cost of the tool.
What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?
  • Smaller organizations with fewer than 7,500 employees, as the price is not affordable.
  • Businesses that prioritize cost-effective solutions over extensive features.

I frequently use HireVue as an integral part of our hiring routine. It's particularly useful for the initial round of interviews, especially when we have many candidates to assess. Candidates can record their responses at their convenience, eliminating the need for immediate face-to-face interactions. The system allows us to ask job-specific questions and then review their responses to evaluate how well they fit the role.

Beyond interviews, HireVue provides valuable tools that help us better understand candidates' suitability for the job. It allows us to see beyond their words and gain a deeper sense of who they are. Additionally, the platform's scheduling features and collaborative tools make teamwork easier. We use HireVue from the start of the candidate evaluation process to the final hiring decision. It's like having an extra set of eyes and ears, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently.

What do you like about this tool?

I really like how HireVue speeds up the initial screening of job applicants. It's convenient to review candidates whenever it suits us. The platform provides AI-driven insights that help ensure fairness and data-driven decisions in identifying the best candidates. It also standardizes interviews, ensuring everyone has an equal opportunity.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

We chose HireVue because we were struggling to keep up with our recruitment process. As more people began applying for jobs, we needed a way to efficiently sort through applications without getting overwhelmed. We were looking for a tool that could help us identify great candidates quickly and fairly.

HireVue turned out to be exactly what we needed. It allows us to conduct organized interviews for many candidates simultaneously, saving us significant time during the early stages of recruitment. The AI insights provided by HireVue have also helped us make smarter hiring decisions faster.

I've been using it for over three years, and it has greatly improved our hiring process, resulting in excellent teams.

What do you dislike about this tool?

One downside of HireVue is that the on-demand interview setup can feel impersonal to some candidates. Talking to a screen instead of a real person might make the experience feel a bit cold. Additionally, while the AI evaluation is helpful, it can sometimes miss subtler aspects of candidates' responses due to its strict adherence to predefined criteria. The platform can also be challenging for new users to navigate, potentially requiring more time to learn than expected.

How is this tool different than their competitors?

HireVue stands out from its competitors by combining AI-powered evaluations with structured interviews. It goes beyond just watching candidates on a screen, offering deeper insights into their responses with advanced technology. Another advantage is that it allows job seekers to complete interviews on their schedule, which benefits both them and us. Having used other video interview tools, I find HireVue's mix of AI and user-friendly features to be the best at reducing the time and effort needed to hire the right candidates.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

When considering a tool like HireVue, it's essential to evaluate its ease of use and compatibility with your existing HR systems. Ensuring a smooth integration can save time and simplify processes. It's also important to assess the quality of the AI features—these should provide reliable and helpful insights without being overly rigid or complex. Consider the candidate experience as well; if the tool is unfriendly or difficult to use, it could negatively impact your company's reputation. Finally, ensure the vendor offers adequate support and training, especially if your team is not familiar with this type of technology.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

HireVue has evolved significantly to better meet users' needs. Initially focused on video interviews, it has since incorporated advanced AI tools that provide deeper insights into candidates' suitability for roles. The platform's interface has also improved, with new features allowing companies to customize it to their specific hiring needs. Importantly, HireVue has enhanced the candidate experience by making the process more engaging and easier to navigate. The company has been responsive to feedback, ensuring that even with its technological focus, the human element remains central.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

HireVue is an excellent fit for large companies or organizations with high-volume hiring needs. It excels when you need to efficiently manage a large number of applications. It's especially useful for companies in industries like finance, healthcare, or technology, where consistent and fair hiring practices are crucial. HireVue's AI-driven tools make it easier to make informed decisions and maintain fairness across the hiring process.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

HireVue might be too complex and costly for small businesses or startups with limited hiring needs. Companies that prefer in-person interviews and building personal connections with candidates might find HireVue's approach too impersonal. Additionally, if your organization is not tech-savvy or hesitant to use AI in hiring, you may find it challenging to fully leverage HireVue's capabilities.

We used HireVue to improve efficiency in screening candidates. It was extremely helpful in allowing my team to manage their time when recruiting. My team spent hours each week conducting preliminary interviews, which was significantly reduced with this tool. When I was leaving the company, they were considering implementing an assessment portion for candidates to streamline the process further.

What do you like about this tool?

The ability to conduct preliminary interviews efficiently. It ensures interviews are standardized and conducted with consistency and fairness. I also appreciated the AI insights, which helped reduce bias in the first round of interviews.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

We used HireVue to screen candidates before interviews with our team, allowing us to ask them standard interview questions. This saved our team time, and we also appreciated the assessment features. With an influx of candidates, our team lacked the bandwidth to screen all of them, so it was helpful to review the HireVue interviews to decide who to move forward for an interview. I used it for six months.

What do you dislike about this tool?
  1. As with any system, there were occasional glitches. While it generally worked well, we received feedback that some candidates had issues and needed to resubmit their interviews.
  2. The tech issues sometimes negatively impacted the candidate experience. I can't think of a third con!
How is this tool different than their competitors?

I haven't used any other AI or HireVue-like tool.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

First, consider the problem you're trying to solve. If you're struggling with an influx of candidates and lack enough recruiters or HR professionals to conduct preliminary interviews, HireVue would be a great addition to your interview process. Just make sure to get thorough training to understand the processes for handling system glitches.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

It integrated AI, which was a powerful addition.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

HireVue is great for larger organizations with multiple open requisitions or a staffing gap in their HR team. Busy teams!

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

HireVue is not great for small organizations with infrequent or a small number of requisitions. Teams that are not tech-savvy.

HireVue is used hourly, replacing the initial phone interview and possibly the first in-person interview. The Virtual Job Tryout tool helps remove the guesswork from hiring by providing a realistic job preview to assist candidates in understanding the role. HireVue's power lies in its ability to assess technical skills through video interviews that ask specific questions related to the job. This takes the interview beyond assessing soft skills and allows for a more comprehensive evaluation of candidates. The platform's customization options also help tailor the experience to fit our needs.

What do you like about this tool?

HireVue is the best platform for video interviewing. I especially like the ability to customize the branding of the platform. HireVue offers the best end-to-end hiring experience with video interview software, assessments, and recruiting tools to communicate with candidates.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

As a Talent Acquisition manager, I have used HireVue since 2011 to increase new hire diversity, speed up hiring, and boost recruiter productivity. We needed a tool to streamline the initial stages of hiring and provide a more efficient way to assess candidates. HireVue offered solutions for conducting initial interviews, evaluating technical skills, and enhancing the overall hiring process. Its ability to facilitate video interviews and job-specific assessments made it an ideal choice. This tool has been instrumental in addressing our recruitment challenges and improving our hiring outcomes.

What do you dislike about this tool?

I used the tool while supporting large clients like General Electric (GE) and Collins Aerospace, both of which had a huge budget and a large Talent team. For GE, our recruiters supporting airplane manufacturing numbered 35, and we were required to use HireVue in our screening process. Setting up the portal with branding, job profiles, and questions is very time-consuming. Many of my hiring managers did not enjoy reviewing the video interviews. I would review them first and then down-select to the top 5 or 7 candidates based on their scores and communication skills. Candidates often did not like the video interview process, so I had to ensure they understood the process and had time to prepare using the tool.

How is this tool different than their competitors?

I have not used any other interview platforms.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

HireVue is vast in its use of video interviewing software, conversational AI, and pre-hire assessments. If you have many roles to fill, especially across the world, and need to screen candidates quickly, this is the tool to use. It offers robust features that streamline the hiring process and make it more efficient.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

HireVue is an excellent platform that I have used for over five years. The main change I have noticed is the increased use of AI to help develop questions. This has enhanced the tool's ability to provide relevant and insightful interview questions.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

HireVue is ideal for organizations that are geographically dispersed, have many roles to fill, and need to hire and assess candidates quickly. It is particularly useful for teams that require a streamlined and efficient hiring process.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

HireVue is suited for all types of organizations as the first screening step.

I’ve been exploring how HireVue saves time for interviewers (Recruiter/HR and Hiring Managers). I used it to create structured interviews and send Virtual and OnDemand interviews. The automated scheduling feature was helpful for live interviews. I’ve been analyzing AI methods of scoring keywords, speech, and body language, gaining insights for myself both professionally and personally. Additionally, I used it for creating virtual events, hosting networking sessions, and employer branding.

What do you like about this tool?

The key benefit is boosting remote hiring capabilities, which is crucial for international recruitment. I appreciate the time and cost savings compared to live interviews and the automatic scoring feature. While I am not entirely convinced about eliminating bias during automated evaluations, it at least offers a different approach, reducing personal subconscious biases.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

By implementing HireVue, our organization aimed to shorten long hiring processes. The goal was to reduce the time to hire, which would lead to a decrease in the cost per hire. HireVue also helps identify top talent using AI scoring, saving evaluators' time. It provides chatbots to answer candidates' questions, which saves recruiters' time. I’ve been using HireVue for less than six months.

What do you dislike about this tool?

Candidates behave differently when interviewed alone with a camera, with an interviewer in person, or with an interviewer online. It is difficult to test and spot the differences if a candidate is disqualified after one camera interview with HireVue. Even as a professional interviewer, I find that personal interaction (whether online or live) significantly impacts presentation.

How is this tool different than their competitors?

HireVue offers integration with various HR and recruitment systems, which is important for large companies with extensive database information.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

Consult with different subject matter experts and hiring managers about partially automating the interview process. HireVue can be particularly useful at the start of the process, especially for positions where self-presentation skills are important, such as sales, marketing, and PR.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

HireVue has improved its mobile-friendly interface. Its predictive analytics for candidates' success have become more complex. While skepticism about AI predictions is understandable, consider how accurately you can assess candidates without AI.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

Automatic interviews can save significant time for companies with thousands of job openings.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

Startups and smaller organizations might not need to automate interviewing, as personal interaction can reveal a potentially better fit.

We use Hirevue to screen candidates for our customer service positions in our retail stores. We can populate our own questions, indicate how long they will have to read and respond to each, and specify if they can retake them. Hirevue allows us to add comments and review candidates so that if they apply again, we know what happened or why they were not selected. We can also provide an immediate response if someone was selected for the role or not. This tool is used regularly as part of our hiring process.

What do you like about this tool?

It saves us a lot of time to focus on other tasks. We can find great candidates faster. It helps the company save money by not having to hire extra help for scheduling phone screens.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

My company bought Hirevue to screen candidates faster and decrease the time to fill all customer service-related positions. This tool is a great addition to our recruitment team because we save time by not having to phone screen or interview. Hirevue allows us to streamline our hiring process, making it more efficient. We have been using this tool for about a year, and it has significantly improved our hiring workflow. Personally, I have used Hirevue since it was implemented and have found it to be very effective.

What do you dislike about this tool?

There are times when the video malfunctions and we cannot see the candidate, which can be frustrating. It would be helpful if Hirevue could detect if the camera is not working or if the camera is covered. This way, candidates could correct the issue before submitting their responses.

How is this tool different than their competitors?

Hirevue offers more options to make the experience unique for candidates, such as a welcome message and automated emails for scheduling interviews. It also has reminders for candidates to complete their interviews, which can be set up by the employer. These features enhance the overall candidate experience.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

The key buying criteria for this tool would be the options for customization, reliability, and easy of manage. Customization really comes down to the experience of the candidates who go through these video interviews. You really want to be able to customize the welcome page and/or welcome emails to reflect the culture of the company. The reliability of this system is a no-brainer as this is something we expect from any system we use.

Lastly, having a system that is easy to manage is probably one of my biggest criteria. Hirevue is a system that anyone can learn to use rather quickly, especially for candidates. Doing a video interview where you need to record yourself for this new chapter in your life can be very nerve-wracking. Not having to worry about how to work this tool when you have to do this interview helps a lot!

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

Hirevue has prioritized making the system easily customizable, which truly makes a difference.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

Hirevue is very good for companies that hire large numbers of entry-level or customer service positions.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

Hirevue might not be suitable for companies that don't hire often, unless they do not have a specific person for recruitment or HR. It is most beneficial for organizations that are constantly hiring or need to decrease the time to fill positions.

After an intake call with hiring leaders, we were instructed on which technical questions to ask. At that point, we had to create an introduction, letting the candidate know what to expect. We would then record our questions. After we moved a candidate to recruiter screen in our ATS, we would send the candidate a link and let them know this was a required step to proceed to the next stage. We received a notification when the candidate completed it, at which point we would review the video interview. We could star the ones we wanted to move forward with and share the video link with the hiring manager if they hadn't already viewed it. Then the candidate would move forward in the formal interview process.

What do you like about this tool?

One of the best features is that HireVue cuts down on recruiter phone screen time. If a recruiter has a lot of complex, technical requisitions that they are working on at once, this is an extremely valuable tool. HireVue was light years ahead of the AI movement and continued to improve as AI became a more prominent tool in the recruiting space. It also gives candidates a chance to record a practice run at a question. One thing you can't see on recruiter phone screens is facial expressions or nonverbal movements; with HireVue, you can see all the nonverbal communication in addition to verbal answers.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

The client I was supporting had a constant need for data scientists, engineers, upper IT-level positions, and technical roles. HireVue's video interviewing significantly decreased the time to hire. I have used it for one year, and it gave the hiring process a personal touch with candidates even before any formal interviews took place. Another benefit was that the hiring manager could also view and rate candidates' video answers. Recruiters were instructed by hiring managers to ask particular questions, so the hiring process was streamlined across the board, providing a fair and equal interview experience for candidates.

What do you dislike about this tool?

Setting up the questions and having to record ourselves was time-consuming in the beginning. If a candidate didn't provide a great video interview experience, they were eliminated. This can leave a candidate feeling bitter after investing time in the video interview process. The cost is expensive depending on company size.

How is this tool different than their competitors?

SparkHire is similar and a cheaper alternative, and it also includes a free trial, which HireVue does not.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

Cost has to be the biggest criterion when purchasing HireVue, as not all companies, particularly small or start-up companies, may have the budget for it. Also, consider if you will be hiring a lot of technical positions for your company. While this tool can be used for non-technical positions, I've seen it rarely used that way. HireVue is exceptional, but it has to make sense from a pricing perspective to ensure a high ROI.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

HireVue did do away with facial analysis to make the interview process more EEO friendly. As candidates may come from different backgrounds or have disabilities, this could create bias in the video interview AI space.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

HireVue is great for a larger company with a high volume of requisitions to fill.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

Small or start-up companies will not see a good ROI with HireVue.

I have used Hirevue for candidates to self-schedule their interviews. I have used Hirevue for roles that have a large number of vacancies (i.e. entry-level roles). It gives the candidate the flexibility to schedule self-paced interviews. It allows me to vet candidates to see how prepared they are for the interview. (i.e. good lighting, well dressed for interview).

It is a time saver as if presenting the candidate to hiring managers. In essence, it's a smart screening tool. In the workflow cycle, it cuts down time in the initial step. There are some candidates who don't take the step to do the video interview. This is perfectly fine in our workflow because only seriously interested candidates are going through the process.

What do you like about this tool?

Hirevue has a clean interface. It has a great user experience. It serves as many functions as part of a platform which is essential for Talent Acquisition professionals.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

Hirevue was purchased to give the talent pool the ability to self-schedule interviews. There was too much time in having recruiters coordinating to schedule interviews. This platform also allowed the ability to interview candidates on the platform as well. They have conversational AI capabilities to interact with prospective applicants. Hirevue can integrate with Workday which is part of the whole HRMS system.

What do you dislike about this tool?

Everything is great about Hirevue. The only con I would have is the cost.

How is this tool different than their competitors?

It is not only a smart interview platform where it provides video conferencing capabilities it is also an applicant tracking system. There are other offerings in the marketplace that don't offer video conference capabilities.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

Amount of internal employees that will use this. Are hiring managers going to have access to this or are they just in-house recruiters. If access is going to be provided to hiring managers then they should be trained so bias can be eliminated potentially.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

They have added more offerings to be competitive.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

Large organizations with volume - food services, hospitality, healthcare.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

Small companies

HireVue was used daily to screen potential candidates for open roles. We were able to customize the look, feel, and candidate experience through their one-way interview features. This dramatically improved the speed at which candidates were able to move through the pipeline while maintaining a positive interview experience.

What do you like about this tool?

Ease of use, customizable and adaptable, mobile friendly, great customer service, and real-time accessibility.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

I utilized the HireVue tool when I worked at Caleres. They had over 1500 retail locations across the US and Canada. Hiring was a priority but we found a bottleneck in our hiring process. Hiring managers and interviewers were unable to keep up with interviews due to their busy travel schedules. HireVue was purchased to speed up the screening process by allowing all interviewers the ability to virtually assess applicants via one-way interviews on their own time and from wherever they were.

What do you dislike about this tool?

HireVue could be improved by adding in additional user permission levels to better control access to data. HireVue could also expand the types of API integrations available to stay current with all new HCM platforms.

How is this tool different than their competitors?

The degree of features and customization differentiates HireVue from its competitors. I believe HireVue is one of the best-in-class tools out there for these types of services.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

Potential buyers should consider how this tool will improve efficiency in their interview processes. There may be pushback on gaining buy-in at first; however, clear training and explaining the 'why' will help increase tool adoption.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

They are constantly improving features to ensure the end users can maximize the use of this tool.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

HireVue is a great tool for high-growth and turnover organizations (i.e. Multiunit Retail). It provides effective and efficient solutions allowing companies to hire and scale at a fast pace.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

Companies with minimal open requisitions annually or low/limited growth plans may not benefit from this tool as much.

Our team utilizes the platform extensively throughout our recruitment process. We typically use HireVue for initial candidate screenings, which involves sending a set of predefined interview questions to applicants. These questions are designed to assess their qualifications, skills, and compatibility with our organization's values and culture.

Once candidates submit their video responses, we review and evaluate them collaboratively, using HireVue's rating and feedback features to streamline the assessment process. The platform allows us to standardize our evaluation criteria, ensuring a fair and consistent review of all candidates.

What do you like about this tool?

Streamlining our initial candidate screenings has been invaluable. This efficiency has significantly reduced the time it takes to move candidates through the interview process, allowing us to make quicker hiring decisions.

Moreover, the AI-driven insights and analytics provided by HireVue have improved our ability to identify top candidates. This has enhanced our overall hiring outcomes and ensured a more data-informed decision-making process.

Lastly, the flexibility of the video interview format benefits candidates by allowing them to showcase their skills in a more relaxed environment but also enhances our ability to assess their qualifications and cultural fit more effectively.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

My organization decided to invest in HireVue two years ago to address several key challenges we were facing in our recruitment process. One of the primary pain points we wanted to solve was the inefficiency and time-consuming nature of our traditional interview process. We were receiving a high volume of applications, and it was becoming increasingly difficult to schedule and conduct in-person interviews for all the candidates. This was causing delays in our hiring timelines and also put a strain on our HR team's resources.

What do you dislike about this tool?

The video interview format can feel impersonal, and candidates may miss in-person interaction. Secondly, there have been occasional technical glitches during video interviews that can disrupt the candidate experience. Lastly, I'd like to tailor assessments more closely to our specific job roles and company culture.

How is this tool different than their competitors?

While I have not used many other virtual interview tools, HireVue's combination of advanced analytics, video interview scheduling flexibility, and ease of use set it apart for initial candidate screenings.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

When purchasing HireVue, tailor your choice so it aligns with your organization's specific needs and goals. Consider the change in efficiency, data capture, candidate experience, and ease of use when making this decision.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

While the platform has not changed much since we first enrolled, it has improved its interface and navigation to become more user-friendly.

I understand it has begun offering virtual job fairs and virtual assessment centers, but we have not taken advantage of those features.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

High-volume, entry-level, office positions are great for HireVue. It is much more efficient than filling up your schedule with interviews that likely won't lead to a hire.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

Executive search firms, headhunters for positions that require licensure or extensive education. Most of these will require in-person or virtual interviews to be the most effective.

About HireVue

With the mission of democratizing the process of hiring, Mark Newman, a then-20-year-old college student launched HireVue as a video interviewing platform along with his co-founders. Being one of the first few companies in the HR tech space to popularize the concept of structured video interviews, HireVue generated most of its revenue by selling webcams in its early days.

Over the years, HireVue has morphed from being a new, disruptive force to a recognized market leader and now has more products for recruiters than just video interviewing.
