After acquiring CodinGame, CoderPad now offers game-like tests and challenges for engaging technical assessments on its Screen module. The user-friendly UI, a well-built question library covering over 60 languages and frameworks, 90 pre-set job roles, and the option to create DIY tests are some of the many pros this module inherited from its former product.
Another feature we appreciate in CoderPad’s Screen is its reporting capabilities. Code Playback lets you watch how test takers build solutions, take notes, and be auto-spotted for any suspicious actions. The report is detailed, providing not just the score and duration but also a breakdown evaluation of the candidate’s problem-solving skills, language knowledge, design, and reliability. There's also a comparative score that benchmarks developers against others in their field, making it easy to identify strong candidates.
On par with competitors such as Coderbyte, HackerRank, and Codility, CoderPad is SOC2 Type 2 certified. The platform achieved this compliance milestone in March 2024, demonstrating a commitment to high standards for data security, availability, and privacy.
Integration has never been a CoderPad’s strength, unfortunately. The online coding assessment tool can connect with a handful of popular ATSs such as Greenhouse, Ashby, and SmartRecruiters. Things can get pricey if your ATS isn’t part of its integration ecosystem, as the platform only offers its open API to users on its highest-priced plan.
We also can’t help but wish there were more forms of prompt assistance, such as phone support, offered to CoderPad’s Starters and Team plans. For the time being, these users can only rely on email support.
I used Coderpad as an administrator, where I managed the licenses and configured interviews and templates. It was pretty straightforward, as I was not involved in the actual interview myself. I made sure proper features were turned on and configured, users were provisioned correctly, and I did occasional maintenance.
- Pricing was good. Different plans get you a different number of interviews per month. We were on the Starter plan.
- The user interface was nice. Familiar experience for candidates because they code in an IDE, and the system is intuitive enough for admins and users to navigate.
- Coderpad has good code execution with almost instant compile feedback.
My company got Coderpad during the COVID era when in-person interviews were virtually impossible, and that's when I started using it. It lets the hiring team test candidates' coding abilities in real time during interviews.
The coding experience is good because candidates can code in an IDE. It also allows recording so the hiring team can play back the session.
- There's no auto desktop lockdown or other proctoring features. In an era of AI, it's hard to catch cheaters.
- Coderpad’s pricing model is pay per interview, so costs could be a variable when we had more interviews in a particular month.
- Integrations and other features require a fee, which adds to the total cost.

We used CoderPad for coding assessments. Generally our interviewers and our candidates like CoderPad because the IDE was straightforward and easy to understand. Additionally, it was easy to toggle between coding languages. The interview teams liked it because it was easy to find the recordings from the interview. Our TA team liked it as well because it was easy to extract the code and put it into candidate feedback.

We needed a coding evaluation platform that worked in a live interview setting. Unfortunately we didn't have consistent hiring with teams that needed a coding tool. CoderPad helped us out tremendously by offering a payment model that allowed us to purchase a number of tests upfront and then more when we needed them.
The biggest issue we had with CoderPad was that it didn't integrate with Workday (at the time this was an issue but I know it has since changed). Outside of that though, we thought CoderPad was a fine tool and didn't dislike much about it.
CoderPad offers a ton of flexibility around how you pay and use it. Additionally, the ability to find previous interviews and recordings was super easy.

With the predefined limit, each plan has the number of tests you can conduct a month, i.e., either 2, 30, or 90; CoderPad would be of most value (financially speaking) to companies that run a similar number of tests per month. For example, if you run ~40 tests a month, the Team plan wouldn’t fit you, and the business plan would be overkill. If you run more than 90 tests a month, the custom Enterprise plan is worth looking into though.
