Culture Amp Review

Culture Amp is an all-in-one employee experience platform, that runs the gamut from engagement to performance management to employee development and skills coaching. With over 6,000 customers that include some big names across many industries, it's a tried-and-true solution for any company looking to boost engagement efforts.

What users think of Culture Amp

Reviewer's Rating
9/10

We used the engagement survey functionality of CultureAmp. We conducted two rounds of annual engagement surveys. This included integrating the platform with company data so that employee demographics could be tied to survey responses. The survey was delivered virtually to all employees, and the results were analyzed directly on the CultureAmp platform. The tool helped us easily visualize trends and areas for improvement within the organization.

What do you like about this tool?
  • The setup of the platform was very easy.
  • The questions were formulated and validated by people scientists.
  • The engagement survey results report was easy to read and distribute to managers.
Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

The company I was working for was looking to conduct an employee engagement survey. We needed a tool that was easy to use, accessible on both PC and mobile devices, and had survey items backed by science that could be benchmarked. The CultureAmp tool met all of these requirements, and we used the platform for two years. It allowed us to gain insights into employee engagement efficiently. Personally, I used the tool throughout that two-year period to manage survey deployment and analyze results.

What do you dislike about this tool?
  • It was challenging not having access to the raw data for internal analysis.
  • The pricing tiers prevented us from accessing specific services without exceeding our budget.
  • Although easy to use and distribute, the platform offered limited customization options for the results reports.
How is this tool different than their competitors?

I feel that CultureAmp is similarly useful when compared to other products, such as Qualtrics. What I find unique about CultureAmp is the support provided by their people scientists when setting up surveys and interpreting the results. It is also very easy to set up and integrate into an organization. I would consider using CultureAmp again for similar tasks.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

People should consider how they plan to use the tool and who will be using the platform. Addressing these questions will help determine how much the company should invest and which features are necessary for their initiatives.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

I understand that CultureAmp has added more features to cover other areas of HR activities and the employee experience, such as onboarding and exit surveys.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

I feel CultureAmp is great for organizations looking to scale a solution quickly and that do not have many in-house resources for extensive research and analysis of survey results.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

I don't think CultureAmp would be a good fit for an organization that prefers to own its survey data and maintain full control over data analysis and reporting.

Reviewer's Rating
10/10

I used Culture Amp to analyze employee engagement and exit survey data, identify trends, and develop action plans to improve workplace culture. The platform was essential for running pulse surveys, collecting feedback on company initiatives, and measuring sentiment across different teams and locations.

It helped generate reports used by leadership to inform strategy. I regularly reviewed survey participation rates and key metrics to identify areas needing attention. The insights enabled more targeted and effective HR initiatives.

What do you like about this tool?
  • Culture Amp provides deep analytics and real-time insights, making it easy to identify engagement trends and take proactive action.
  • The platform’s benchmarking feature allows comparison against industry standards, helping set realistic goals for improvement.
  • Its user-friendly interface and automated reports simplify data analysis, saving time and improving decision-making for HR and leadership teams.
Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

While working with Universal Engineering Sciences in 2024, we implemented Culture Amp to enhance our employee engagement strategy and improve retention. Before adopting the platform, we faced challenges in gathering and analyzing employee feedback efficiently, which made it difficult to identify trends and address workplace concerns proactively.

Culture Amp provided real-time insights into engagement, performance, and overall sentiment, allowing us to take data-driven actions to improve our workplace culture. I personally used Culture Amp for six months, leveraging its analytics to support leadership in creating targeted retention initiatives and improving the employee experience across the western region.

What do you dislike about this tool?
  • The platform was expensive based on what I understood.
  • Integration with other HR systems could be more seamless, as some data syncing required manual adjustments.
  • The customization options were somewhat limited, making it difficult to tailor questions to our organization’s specific needs.
How is this tool different than their competitors?

Culture Amp stands out from its competitors due to its automatic reporting and analytics. When we used SurveyMonkey, gathering employee feedback required extensive manual effort to analyze and summarize responses. Culture Amp automates this process with real-time insights and visual dashboards, significantly reducing the time spent on data interpretation.

While SurveyMonkey offered more flexibility in survey design, Culture Amp’s ability to streamline reporting and convert feedback into actionable strategies made it more effective for improving workplace culture.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

When selecting an employee engagement tool, organizations should consider automation, analytics, and integration capabilities. Automated reporting is crucial for turning survey data into insights without manual analysis.

Strong analytics and benchmarking help companies compare results against industry standards and track progress. Integration with existing HR systems reduces administrative workload.

Ease of use and customization are also key—some platforms prioritize simplicity, while others offer more flexible design features, so it's important to select one that fits your organization’s needs and resources.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

I am unsure, as I only used it for six months.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

Culture Amp is ideal for mid-to-large-sized organizations that prioritize data-driven employee engagement and performance management. It is especially beneficial for HR teams needing automated reporting, actionable insights, and benchmarking to guide culture improvements.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

Culture Amp may not be a good fit for small businesses or organizations seeking a basic, low-cost survey tool.

Reviewer's Rating
7/10

The first feature we wanted to utilize in Culture Amp was quick surveys. This allows us to set up automated surveys triggered by specific events, helping us measure our progress. We also use the platform to assess our DEI initiatives and determine if they are making a meaningful impact.

By understanding what employees value, we can scale our development programs accordingly. The workflows help managers and their direct reports stay aligned and on track. Notifications alert them when adjustments are needed, ensuring that goals remain achievable.

What do you like about this tool?
  • Culture Amp is science-based and intuitive.
  • It provides a streamlined approach to surveying employees and gathering actionable insights.
  • It has contributed to an increase in our retention rates.
Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

Our organization chose Culture Amp because we needed a specialized system to help build an engaged workforce. After two years of attempting to create initiatives on our own, we decided to implement Culture Amp.

The platform allows us to focus on employee development and retention more effectively. Since adopting it, we have seen a 12% increase in our retention rate. Culture Amp also helps us design development programs that align with our company culture.

What do you dislike about this tool?
  • Culture Amp is somewhat limited in its survey capabilities. For example, anonymous surveys restrict our ability to pinpoint specific areas for improvement.
  • Some key survey results lack the level of detail we need for deeper analysis.
  • The employee goal development feature does not integrate with our primary HR system.
How is this tool different than their competitors?

Few platforms offer a seamless approach to both employee surveys and development. Culture Amp stands out by combining these functions into a single, user-friendly platform.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

When evaluating this type of tool, consider your long-term goals and how frequently you will use it. Integration with existing systems is another key factor—ensuring compatibility with your HR and payroll software can prevent operational inefficiencies. It’s also essential to assess whether the platform will provide long-term value rather than just meeting short-term needs.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

Culture Amp has introduced new features that make it easier to conduct surveys and support employee development.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

Culture Amp is ideal for mid-sized, growing organizations that have established HR processes but want to improve employee engagement and development.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

Very large global organizations may find Culture Amp less effective, especially if they require more extensive customization and enterprise-level integration.

Reviewer's Rating
10/10

We use CultureAmp on a quarterly basis. We connected our HRIS (Rippling) to CultureAmp and it makes the Survey sending, data collecting, and data reporting functionalities very smooth and easy. The key workflows we used for CultureAmp would be for our Quarterly employee engagement survey, pulse surveys, and DEI engagement surveys. Once the survey campaign is activated, we live in the data to set goals for the upcoming quarter around engagement metrics from the top level down. We also used the privacy preferences so that managers are able to see into their own org. They take their survey privacy very seriously, which creates a much more equitable and honest survey experience.

What do you like about this tool?
  • I love their easy-to-use survey creation tool, it makes customizing the survey extremely easy.
  • I love the data visualization, filtering capabilities, and reporting flexibility to really show the data to tell the story.
  • I really appreciate their customer support, they truly do go above and beyond.
  • I also really love their IO psychology-based recommendations they provide for high-level areas of opportunity to provide direction in making impactful changes within the organization.
Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

We selected CultureAmp because it is a best-in-class software for running employee engagement surveys. Prior to using it, we used Google Surveys for pulse surveys which is pretty limited in functionality. I've used CultureAmp at 2 separate companies and in total I've used it for about 3 years combined. It's one of my favorite HR systems that I like to recommend around engagement metrics tracking. The key benefits it provides are extremely easy-to-use surveys, the ability to create great reports and visualize data, great end-user experience, good customer support, and adaptability to use the survey functionality for different feedback mechanisms. As an HRBP, it's also extremely helpful to talk through engagement surveys with managers in identifying gaps in their team. CultureAmp's IO expertise also includes great recommendations for specific areas of opportunity for your organization which are great.

What do you dislike about this tool?
  • One of the things that was difficult was the HRIS integration between Rippling, though that may just be more of an integration issue. Some of the data would transfer over while others wouldn't.
  • When making any edits after the survey has gone out to the data sets ( for example, changing the department a person belongs to) you have to contact your account rep to change the data set. It would be nice to be able to do that independently!
  • It would be great if you could preview your data sets and how it would look like for your survey without publishing it as active first, that way you're able to more easily make any edits prior to making it active.
How is this tool different than their competitors?

Fortunately and unfortunately, I have not used other engagement survey tools. I've used add-on services that generally do pulse surveys like Paylocity or Google Sheets. CultureAmp is definitely the best-in-class system around engagement surveys, and beyond. It's the most comprehensive survey tool that allows you to really get into the depths of the data and recommendations on how to use the data to make impactful decisions to move your organization forward. As an HR professional, it truly is valuable data that no other system has been able to do as well as CultureAmp.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

Budget is definitely important to think about. We also used some of the add-on performance management add-on. It's not the cheapest platform and can cost as much as an HRIS sometimes ( but it's extremely worth it).

Additional Add-ons: Depending on already existing systems, some of the add-on functionalities like performance management tracking, OKR tracking, etc. could be redundant. It's important to think about what you want to use CultureAmp for, and what you want to keep within your HRIS.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

They have added on additional modules like performance management to address customer needs. It's a great add-on tool and helpful for companies starting out their Performance Management system.

they're great at customer listening, and their customer support is great.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

I would say that it's best for companies with over 50+ employees. The earlier the better to really get a good data set going, but 50 + is probably most ideal for the functionalities outside of engagement surveys. I also believe it's for progressive organizations that really care about the culture and employees and take action.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

It would not be a good fit for a very small org under 50 employees because I think the ROI might be a bit too pricey for the number of employees and data sets you'll get. Also, it's an expensive system to keep alive if you just do surveys just to get data. You can definitely use Google Surveys for that. Make sure you take advantage of the recommendations, and modules, to move the org forward.

Culture Amp has been a great tool in my work as an HR Consultant. I primarily use Culture Amp to streamline employee reviews and track employee engagement. Culture Amp's system and support team guide you through every step of the implementation process. It is fantastic for tracking employee goals. Culture Amp also provides survey templates that are easy to follow.

What do you like about this tool?
  • Culture Amp is easy to set up.
  • Culture Amp has an intuitive system.
  • Culture Amp supports large organizations seamlessly.
Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

My client purchased Culture Amp after rehauling the employee experience post-covid. I have been using the platform since then.

What do you dislike about this tool?
  • Culture Amp has outdated terminology on occasion.
  • It can take a lot of time to sort through what surveys are applicable to you.
  • Setting up multiple users can take time.
How is this tool different than their competitors?

Culture Amp is one of the better HRIS/Employee Feedback tools available. I would recommend it to 90% of their competitors.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

Employers should consider the time it takes to properly analyze an effective survey before purchasing Culture Amp. If you are unfamiliar with the 360 process, it can be a learning curve.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

Culture Amp has consistently maintained high marks among my clients based on their evolving to users’ needs.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

Public-facing, growing organizations (particularly after M&A or high employee turnover).

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

Small businesses that are not culture-focused.

Reviewer's Rating
10/10

Culture Amp provided our employee engagement survey. We had a team of culture ambassadors representing each department. We worked with these ambassadors quarterly to take their employee engagement results and build out a plan to measure and actively improve the scores.

What do you like about this tool?
  • It helps us gauge employee engagement.
  • The cost was worth the value we received.
  • We loved having people scientists working with us to truly understand how to improve our work environment.
Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

I began using Culture Amp in 2018. Our company got involved with Culture Amp because they were very similar to us in terms of how they began (as a startup) and the focus on strengthening culture and engagement. My team was in charge of keeping our culture strong and improving employee engagement from entry to exit.

What do you dislike about this tool?
  • I wish they had more of a discount when you bundle services.
  • I wish they would allow you to split up services based on how your department leaders would prefer to use the service.
  • I wish they had a referral bonus.
How is this tool different than their competitors?

I really like Culture Amp because they offer great articles and tools for no additional costs. I like that they have conferences and gatherings for people geeks to get to know each other. I like that they really try to build community among their customers through Culture First and other resources.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

How large is your organization and how much money are you willing to invest in a tool. You should also get C-suite buy-in because you truly need at least three years of a commitment to be able to utilize the data and tools to the best of your ability and get a good benchmark from which to build your strategy for improvement.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

They continue to acquire adjacent companies that will help provide more of a one-stop-shop for users. That really helps with selling the value to the C-suite.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

Those who are truly invested in improving the company culture and keeping employees engaged. If you consider employees just a line on your balance sheet, this is not the tool for you.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

Ones with too much bureaucracy and who believe in hierarchy instead of autonomy. More agile and empathetic organizations would fare better with this tool.

Reviewer's Rating

We use it for goal setting, personal reflections, and 1:1 catch ups with individual managers. These details feed into our reward and retention processes as it is a key part to learn more about our people and how they can progress.

What do you like about this tool?

The platform is easy to navigate. It offers training resources where other platforms don't, and we also like that it sets reminders as to when you should be completing upcoming tasks.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

We shifted to Culture Amp from another HR platform based on a global agreement through our holding company. We have now been using it for about two years

What do you dislike about this tool?

It would be nice to see a combined set of previous goals, reflections, and 1:1 notes to refer to rather than having dig this information up. It would be great to have this view appear on a side panel that can be scrolled through so that everything is visible on a single screen.

How is this tool different than their competitors?

This felt like a brighter and simpler platform. These tasks are not everyday actions for our staff so they need to be made easy to do in order to get more usage.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

The number of staff that they have. How often they are required to be completing these kind of processes. The cost of the tool compared to others on the market. How can this integrate into their current HRIS programs.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

I have not been using it long enough to see substantial interface changes. However, from email updates I can see that they are trying to make it more user friendly for people managers.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

Large companies with 200+ staff

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

Micro companies with less than 10 staff.

Reviewer's Rating

I utilized Culture Amp for employee engagement surveys. The workflow allowed for direct links sent via email with data pulled directly from our HRIS as well as links and QR codes for employees without email access.

Post survey, the platform also provided action planning guidance and built-in training solutions with life labs. Culture Amp linked with our HRIS, Ceridian, and was able to provide a great demographic breakdown while maintaining the confidentiality of the survey. It also had a great sentiment tool for all free text reporting so you were able to analyze if it was a positive or negative comment with themes rather than read every single comment submitted.

What do you like about this tool?
  • The end user experience from employees' end on computers, tablets, and phones was top-notch.
  • Data analytics were clear, easy to use/export, and provided clear trending vs previous years or industry benchmarks.
Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

I utilized Culture Amp at a previous employer for 2 years before switching organizations. We migrated to this platform from a paper employee engagement survey.  Culture Amp provided great transition, resources, and tools to be successful in a manufacturing environment where many employees did not have access to a personal computer or e-mail. The end user interface was a huge selling point.

The backend side of the platform is also very strong. I loved the data analytics and how much you could compare data year over year. Culture Amp also stood out against competitors with their post survey support in the form of suggested action items and personalized training items. I loved this program so much that I immediately shared them as a vendor option with my new organization.

What do you dislike about this tool?
  • There was no way to combine smaller participating groups for combined engagement data.
  • Additional modules were great (performance) but expensive compared to the current platform.
  • They had great exports for PowerPoints but I wish the templates could be customized.
How is this tool different than their competitors?

I loved how Culture Amp tied in with our HRIS for demographic and contact information and was super user-friendly both as the end user and admin. The platform is advanced in ease of use compared with other platforms.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

End user experience should be top of mind as if the system is complicated to access or use employees will not participate in surveys.

Ease of understanding data analytics and custom access/reports is a must. This platform is able to have custom results mass exported/delivered to leaders

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

It continuously adds benchmark data, training modules, and improved action items for survey results.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

Organizations that need data split by site, function, and/or leader are a great fit for Culture Amp. Also, organizations that need flexibility on how users interact with the system (mobile, tablet, computer), etc., would benefit from the platform.

Lastly having an HRIS is great for system integrations but organizations can also upload user data by spreadsheet so it is not a full requirement.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

It is an expensive platform so if you have a limited budget this may not be a great fit.

We utilize both engagement and performance. We use engagement for quarterly pulse surveys that determine metrics for our managerial bonus program, as well as our annual survey. We are starting to use the action planning tool with our ELT. We use performance for performance review and calibration. We plan to use it for goal-setting this year, too!

What do you like about this tool?
  • I love the action planning capability that action planning has
  • I love that engagement allows you to filter so many different ways and the heatmap  functionality is fantastic
  • I love the calibration view you can share in performance
Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

We decided to purchase Culture Amp as an engagement platform. Later, we added on performance. We needed a tool that helped us act on employee survey results and also had performance capabilities. We chose culture amp because it met the pain points we were having, they have a great customer success team & truly are working toward great product enhancements. I’ve personally used the tool since august 2021. Performance since last October.

What do you dislike about this tool?
  • In performance, it’s not as easy as you’d like to exclude individuals from a calibration cycle from a filtering perspective
  • In performance, I wish we could filter by division
  • In engagement, I wish I could share a link with a leader for their dashboard not just via email
How is this tool different than their competitors?
  • Culture amp is different than competitors because of the action planning, it really sets them apart.
  • I prefer the performance to BambooHR (what I’ve used in the past) because the views are so much better in calibration
What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?
  • Consider action planning. What are you going to do with the engagement survey info?
  • Consider how your performance cycle will be imported back into your point of record (for us it’s BambooHR and that may be a challenge, TBD!)
How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

More filtering & word clouds in engagement! Too soon in using performance to tell.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

A medium to large org (one with more data to measure!).

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

For small organizations, it is tough, as if they don’t receive much data, you can’t view the results when you slice.
