Multiplier Review

Multiplier is an Employer Of Record (EOR) and a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) platform that helps companies hire, onboard, manage, and pay employees, as well as manage taxes, allowances, bonuses, social contributions, and statutory deductions in over 150 countries. For a company that was founded in late 2020, they have made significant strides in their industry, one of which is securing over $70 million in funding from 14 investors.

Further, their PEO service stands as the middle-man employer to process payroll, benefits, and other expenses required to manage global workforces. Multiplier also helps businesses with local entities process local payroll in the specific markets they are hiring.

Compliance with Multiplier

Compliance laws are bound to change from time to time, and this gets multiplied if you’ve got people in several geographies. As most of the best EOR services and global payroll software, Multiplier keeps you updated with their over 100 legal and tax experts that they have stationed in the countries they operate in.

In addition to that, Multiplier provides numerous resources on everything you need to know about hiring talent from just about anywhere in the world. These resources are thoroughly detailed and they contain all necessary information on salary data, top local universities, tax information, minimum wage, termination processes, public holidays, and so on.

Multiplier’s Hiring Tools

Furthermore, Multiplier comes packed with some recruiting and basic HR features. For example, the platform provides templates you can consult to create job descriptions. You can also use these templates to review applications and check if candidates tick all the boxes for the position required.

As for Contractor Management, they have a special plan that allows you to hire and pay freelancers in their preferred local currency. Interestingly, the software allows you to pay your freelancers in crypto too. The software also incorporates some lightweight administrative features such as time off requests and expense/reimbursement management.

Multiplier’s Stock Ownership Plans

Multiplier also facilitates employee stock ownership plans (ESOP). This means that, no matter your employees’ countries of origin, they can own stock options in your company. This feature can be a bargaining chip to help entice and recruit big talents across the globe.

As mentioned before, Multiplier provides insurance benefits as part of employment packages. These benefits are homogenized into bronze, silver, and gold packages. They have also given factsheets that contain information on each package so you can understand each coverage in each plan.

Multiplier’s Handling of Data and Customer Support

Of course, As an employer, you are responsible for the safety of your employees’ personal data. Multiplier keeps your tracks covered as they are GDPR compliant, which means they meet the requirements for properly handling personal data as defined in the general data protection regulation guidelines.

They are also compliant with other data security regulations such as PCI-DSS, which is the standard data security guideline for handling payment cards, and ISO 27001, which is the leading international standard on information security.

What users think of Multiplier

Reviewer's Rating
9/10

I use Multiplier regularly to manage global payroll and ensure compliance with local tax and labor laws on a monthly basis. The platform enables me to process payroll for our remote teams across multiple countries, ensuring that all employees and contractors are paid accurately and on time.

A key workflow involves setting up new employees or contractors, which is seamless and streamlined, as the platform integrates with local labor laws to simplify the process. I also use Multiplier to monitor tax filings and ensure that all required reports are submitted on time in each region.

The automation of payroll tasks, such as calculating taxes, deductions, and benefits, has significantly reduced manual errors and saved time for the HR team.

What do you like about this tool?
  • The platform simplifies global payroll management and ensures compliance with local tax and labor laws.
  • Setting up new employees or contractors is seamless, thanks to its integration with local labor regulations.
  • Payroll automation reduces manual errors and saves significant time for the HR team.
  • The compliance tools help us stay updated with regulatory changes, ensuring smooth operations across regions.
Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

As an HR professional managing global payroll, Multiplier was transformative for our operations. The platform simplified payroll processing across multiple countries, ensuring compliance with tax and regulatory requirements in each region. It also addressed complex compliance issues, making the entire process much smoother for our HR team.

The interface was clean and user-friendly, reducing the learning curve for new users. Setting up employees and contractors globally was straightforward, and the integration with local labor laws reduced administrative headaches. Payroll automation was accurate and timely, leading to fewer errors compared to our previous solutions. I have personally used it for one year.

What do you dislike about this tool?
  • The platform may not be necessary for businesses without remote or international teams.
  • It is not ideal for smaller companies with limited payroll needs, as it might be overly feature-rich.
  • There is a lack of deeper HRIS functionalities, which could enhance its utility for broader HR management.
How is this tool different than their competitors?

While Multiplier excels in international payroll and contractor management, it lacks some of the advanced HRIS functionalities offered by other platforms. It is best suited for businesses with international teams, providing time-saving features and ensuring compliance.

Compared to competitors, its focus on global payroll and streamlined contractor setup stands out, making it an excellent choice for businesses expanding globally.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

Consider whether your organization has a remote or international workforce, as Multiplier is designed for global payroll and compliance. Assess the complexity of your payroll needs and the number of contractors or employees across regions. Smaller companies with basic payroll needs might find the platform too robust, while those managing international operations will benefit greatly from its compliance tools and automation features.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

I’m not sure as I have not worked on the tool for long enough to see changes.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?
  • Businesses managing international payroll and contractors.
  • Organizations with remote teams across different countries requiring compliance with local tax and labor laws.
  • Companies looking to automate payroll tasks and streamline global operations.
What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?
  • Small companies with limited payroll needs, as the platform may be overly complex for their requirements.
  • Organizations without remote or international teams, as they may not need the global compliance features.

We use Multiplier as an EOR for employees in specific countries within APAC and EMEA where we do not have offices. Typically, there are 2-4 new hires monthly in these areas, and the company continues expanding into similar regions. We use Multiplier for onboarding and contracting new hires, tracking work hours, and ensuring that these employees are paid in compliance with local laws, including handling final payments at termination.

What do you like about this tool?

It saves a significant amount of time and money by eliminating the need to manage local compliance in new regions. It makes hiring and onboarding new hires easy, saving internal HR and payroll resources, with integration to BambooHR. We appreciate the ease of terminating employees with the assurance that it is handled in compliance with local laws, particularly with regard to final payments.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

Our company has been scaling globally at a rapid pace over the past two years. We were hiring sales executives in regions within APAC and EMEA where we did not have an established presence. To quickly and efficiently hire and onboard new sales employees without setting up a business entity, we found Multiplier to be an effective EOR (Employer of Record) solution.

What do you dislike about this tool?

The support is sometimes lacking, especially with terminations that require timely action. The tool may be inaccessible depending on internet connection quality. It could benefit from additional data analytics features.

How is this tool different than their competitors?

The ease of use and real-time dashboard/display are features our previous EOR provider did not offer. The overall presentation and user-friendliness are also superior.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

If HR is recommending or purchasing this tool, it is crucial to meet with senior leadership to explain the cost in alignment with the company’s growth goals and compare it with other available options.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

So far, we have not observed much evolution in the tool since we started using it.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

Multiplier is ideal for companies experiencing rapid global growth and in need of a secure, efficient, and swift solution for hiring employees or contractors in regions without a business entity.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

Multiplier may not suit organizations that do not need an EOR; other more comprehensive HR/payroll platforms may be more appropriate in these cases.

I'm in the platform daily, and it's become second nature. Most mornings start with checking new applications. Multiplier also makes it super easy to post jobs and track candidates.

The real lifesaver is how it handles all the paperwork for new hires. Come payroll time (which used to be my least favorite week), everything just works. The reporting features have also been clutch for our quarterly planning sessions, giving us clear insights into our global workforce.

What do you like about this tool?

First off, Multiplier takes the guesswork out of international compliance - no more frantic Googling about employment laws! The dashboard is a game-changer; I can finally see everything about our global team in one place without jumping between twenty spreadsheets. What really seals the deal is the payroll system - hitting one button and knowing everyone's getting paid correctly, no matter where they are.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

The decision to get Multiplier came from a real headache we were facing with international hiring. We were drowning in paperwork trying to manage people across different countries, and the breaking point came when we realized we'd need to set up legal entities in each one.

After hearing good things about Multiplier from a colleague, we took the plunge. Six months in, I can't imagine handling our global team without it - no more late nights figuring out compliance issues for different countries.

What do you dislike about this tool?

I've got to be honest, the price tag made me wince at first, especially since we're scaling up. The interface can be a bit of a maze sometimes; just yesterday I spent ages trying to find a specific report.

Support response times can be frustrating too - while the team is helpful when they get back to you, sometimes you're left hanging. We've also run into snags with some of the more obscure markets we're trying to hire in.

How is this tool different than their competitors?

Here's the thing about Multiplier - they've really nailed the balance between contractors and full-time employees, which most other platforms struggle with. The big difference is they actually understand local nuances instead of just checking boxes.

Their pricing is refreshingly straightforward too - no surprise fees lurking in the fine print (learned that lesson the hard way before). The local support in each market has helped us navigate tricky situations that other providers probably wouldn't have caught.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

Take it from someone who's been through this - look beyond the flashy sales pitch. Dig deep into their compliance coverage in your target markets and think about your growth plans.

Make sure you understand ALL the costs involved - not just the base subscription, but currency conversion fees and support costs. Don't forget to check how it'll play with your existing systems - we learned that one the hard way.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

Multiplier keeps getting better. When we first started, the reporting was pretty basic, but they've really stepped up their game. Last month they added some smart automation tools that have saved us hours.

They seem to actually listen to feedback too - they recently overhauled the compliance monitoring system after users kept asking for better alerts.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

If you're running a growing company with international plans, you'll love Multiplier. It's perfect for those "I can't believe how much time I used to spend on this" moments in managing global teams.

The sweet spot seems to be mid-sized companies that are serious about international expansion but don't want to build out massive legal and HR teams in every country.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

Let's be real - if you're just operating in one country, Multiplier would be overkill. Small startups might find it overwhelming (and expensive) if they're just dipping their toes into international hiring.

If you need super specialized payroll solutions in specific markets, the standardized approach might not work. And if you're on a tight budget, there are probably simpler solutions out there that might be a better fit.

I interact with the platform daily to manage and oversee various aspects of employee engagement across our international operations. Key workflows include onboarding new international crew members, handling global payroll in compliance with local regulations, and managing employee benefits packages. Additionally, we use Multiplier to maintain compliance documentation for our global staff, ensuring that all personnel operate within the legal frameworks of their respective countries. This tool is vital for supporting our global workforce efficiently and effectively.

What do you like about this tool?
  1. Global Compliance Ease: Multiplier simplifies compliance with international labor laws, making it much easier to manage our diverse global workforce.
  2. Efficient Payroll Processing: It streamlines payroll operations across different countries, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
  3. Robust Employee Management: Multiplier provides comprehensive tools for onboarding, benefits management, and maintaining employee records, enhancing HR operations.
Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

LMC adopted Multiplier to streamline the complexities of managing a diverse, international workforce. With crews and support staff based globally, we needed a solution to handle payroll, compliance, and employee management across different countries. Multiplier was introduced over two years ago to address these challenges effectively. It has been instrumental in ensuring compliance with local labor laws, simplifying payroll processes, and managing employee benefits efficiently. The ability to onboard international employees without setting up local entities has been particularly beneficial, enhancing our operational flexibility and reducing administrative overhead.

What do you dislike about this tool?
  1. Complex Interface: The user interface can be complex and less intuitive, requiring a steeper learning curve for new users.
  2. Limited Customization Options: Some features lack the flexibility to be fully customized to meet the specific needs of our global operations.
  3. Response Times: Customer support response times can be slow, especially during critical payroll and compliance deadlines.
How is this tool different than their competitors?

Multiplier stands out primarily due to its comprehensive handling of international labor compliance and the ability to manage payroll and HR functions across multiple countries without the need to establish local entities. Unlike other HR platforms that focus primarily on either payroll or compliance, Multiplier integrates these services seamlessly, which is particularly beneficial for companies like Liberty Maritime Corporation that operate globally. Its one-stop solution for international employment management makes it preferable for businesses looking to expand or maintain a global workforce.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?
  1. Global Compliance: Ensure the tool efficiently manages compliance with international labor laws, crucial for companies operating across borders.
  2. Integration Capabilities: Look for a platform that seamlessly integrates with your existing HR and payroll systems to streamline processes.
  3. Scalability: The tool should grow with your business, handling increases in employee numbers and geographic expansion without performance issues.
How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

The platform has significantly improved its user interface to simplify navigation and reduce complexity. Additionally, it has expanded its customization options to better cater to the diverse needs of various industries and enhanced its integration capabilities with other HR tools for a more cohesive user experience.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

It is ideal for businesses expanding internationally that need to onboard, pay, and manage employees across multiple jurisdictions efficiently. This makes it valuable for companies in industries such as technology, shipping, and consulting, where flexibility and compliance are critical.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

Multiplier may not be a good fit for smaller organizations or startups that operate solely within a single country and have minimal international employment needs. These organizations might find the platform's comprehensive features for global compliance and payroll management more complex and costly than necessary for their limited scope of operations.

Reviewer's Rating

We use Multiplier’s EOR solution for everything from sending offer letters to employment agreements. We also found that the deal they have with benefit providers is quite decent. We now use Multiplier to manage employee benefits as well. It is nice that employees have a place to log in to check their employment records. They can request time off directly on the platform.

What do you like about this tool?

I love how quickly we can set up a contract in a completely new country. The interface is intuitive, and setting up a contract takes less than five minutes. It is also no longer necessary for us to double-check the local labor laws against the contract, as they have local lawyers ensuring compliance. For example, the system does not allow you to input a number of holidays lower than the country's legal requirement, which is pretty nifty.

Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

It has become increasingly difficult to employ people in other countries, especially China. Due to local employment laws, we were spending a lot of resources and time putting together job offers. We also needed to ensure local people that our obligations to local law were done by the book. We are still using Multiplier several months later. With the expansion of the business, we will likely use it even more.

What do you dislike about this tool?

I would like there to be a better overall HR manager system, where we can manage everything with different levels of management access. Also, I wish there were more personalized configurations that could specifically tailor to the business. A more custom onboarding would be superb and a slightly less robust package. Additionally, the price is a bit high for a startup trying to hire in countries with lower salary rates, which kind of defeats the purpose.

How is this tool different than their competitors?

Multiplier is user-friendly, and onboarding is super quick. I didn't expect the platform to provide access to a benefit management program, which was a pleasant surprise. Overall, it combines contracting, benefits, and PTO management all in one place. It literally cut my working hours in half. It is excellent.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

Definitely consider the price. The pricing makes sense if you are employing people with high salaries, but if you are hiring administrators from a low-income country, the platform may not be cost-effective. You can get a discount if you bulk purchase for more than five people. The price is per person per month. Another thing to consider is its simplicity; the platform is very easy to use, practically immediately. Finally, consider the effort you would need to figure out employment laws in countries where laws are constantly changing; this tool will save you from some headaches.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

Not much, although they have promised the HR section is developing and will be rolled out in full capacity soon.

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

Startups and scaleups. Multiplier is great for companies that are global and starting out, but not for big ones that already have entities in different countries. It is also suitable for scaling companies that do not yet have in-house HR and legal teams.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

Big corporations that already have legal entities in different countries or continents do not need a tool like Multiplier.

We use Multiplier to find international talent. After we find who we are looking for, Multiplier helps us with our onboarding process for both new employees and contractors and gives an easy and secure way for our payroll to get our employees paid worldwide.

What do you like about this tool?
  • Multiplier allows us to find talent worldwide.
  • It helps us with our onboarding process.
  • We can securely and easily pay talent anywhere in the world.
Why did your organization buy this tool, and how long have you used it for?

My organization started using Multiplier because we needed a reliable way to onboard international talent. We had several needs for talent worldwide on the contracting side and we were running into trouble finding reliable talent and a streamlined way to pay the talent.

What do you dislike about this tool?
  • We have had some higher turnover on talent we have found through Multiplier.
  • Not often but we have had to use other avenues to find talent because we did not find what we needed for a specific project.
  • Multiplier does not have the best tools for language barriers between us and new employees.
How is this tool different than their competitors?

I think the biggest way is that it’s a one-stop shop with being able to hire, onboard, and pay.

What Instructions should people think about when buying this type of tool?

The biggest thing you need to consider is what type of people you’re trying to hire whether it be contractors or new employees. This will make a big difference in price.

How has this tool changed or evolved over time to meet users needs?

N/a

What specific type of user or organization is this tool very good for?

If your organization is in constant need of international talent and if you're looking for a secure way to hire onboard and pay contractors worldwide, this platform might be for you.

What specific type of user or organization would this tool not be a good fit for?

If you do not need to hire internationally or if your hiring needs are not out of control.

Multiplier Key Features

  • Instant contract generation: Whether it’s for a full-time employee, contractor, or freelancer, you can set up and send a contract within minutes.
  • Multi-lingual contracts: Multiplier is one of the few software products that supports contracts in the local language of the market you are hiring. These locally-compliant contracts are automatically created using the parameters you give during the employee’s onboarding process. Once the contract is created, you can request changes to the draft before it is signed. This will come in handy if your business wants to add specific clauses to contracts.
  • Multiple payment currencies: With Multiplier, you can pay employees and freelancers in their preferred local currencies.
  • Timesheet: Employees can enter their time worked within the multiplier platform. This feature is useful for freelance payroll management.
  • Administrative functions: Multiplier allows you to perform some administrative functions as well. You get to manage time-off requests, review timesheets, and track expenses all within the app. To streamline administrative tasks, you can add managers and administrators as well as the team members they will supervise. Managers can approve expenses and time-off requests.
  • Employee self-onboarding/self-service: Once you conclude the process of adding an employee, they will receive an email from Multiplier asking them to self-onboard themselves. It typically takes 3-5 minutes for them to provide KYC details, banking details, and to sign the automatically generated contracts. Multiplier also provides a single-place for employees to access payslips, offer letters/contracts, track expense requests, bonuses, and see the benefits they are entitled to.
  • Employee Stock Options Plan (ESOP): Multiplier allows you to grant equity to your employees with their ESOP plans. You can specify the type of ESOP, the vesting period, plan rules, and liquidity terms.

Multiplier Key Integrations

Multiplier currently integrate with only a few of the top HR tools out there, such as HiBob, Workday, BambooHR, and Personio. They are always adding more, but it's still a reduced list compared to other vendors in the EOR space.

Multiplier Pricing

Multiplier offers two price plans for their EOR services. They are flat rates priced on a per monthly basis. The amount stays the same regardless of the number of employees you manage. You get to cancel anytime, and no credit card is required for initial sign-up.

Plan Price What's Included?
Hire Employees $300 per month - Automatically generated contracts
- Multi-country payroll
- Multi-currency payments
- ESOPs, Benefits, and Insurance administration
- Expense and time off management
- 24/7 support from local HR and legal experts
- Salary calculator
- Invoice management
Pay Freelancers $40 per month - Instant Contracts
- Multi-currency and crypto payments
- Benefits and Insurance administration
- 24/7 support from local HR and legal experts, no third-party delays
- Remittance advice

Note that, in addition to these plans, you will pay additional costs for the employee insurance package (also offered as a stand-alone tool). It starts from $20 per month for the basic coverage plan, and the prices vary with additional coverage. Prices may also vary with location.

Global Payroll is also offered as a stand-alone product for businesses with or without local entities - starting at $20 per employee per month.

Multiplier is Best For

Multiplier is a better choice for companies looking to hire their global workforce in the Asia-Pacific region, although they don’t operate there exclusively. Their features are beneficial to startups, mid-sized businesses, and enterprises. An example of this is the variety of contracts they are able to handle, whether it’s for supporting an on-demand workforce, fixed term, full-time, and more. The EOR vs PEO debate is often confusing, but Multiplier does both.

How has Multiplier Changed Over Time?

Multiplier Implementation

Multiplier provides training in the form of documentation, live online demos, and resource videos, to all customers. The documentation can be found on their resource pages, while the helpful videos can be found in the help center.

We advise you to book a demo session before you commit to the software. The demo will take you through the process of hiring and onboarding your employees in five crucial steps— eligibility, basic details, compensation, insurance, and compliance. Multiplier has made the process compliant-proof so you are notified anytime you are about to make an error.

All statutory entitlements are parameterized with local labor laws in the markets you are hiring. They also provide guides and comprehensive information along the way to help guide your decision-making when creating employee contracts.

Multiplier Customer Success

Multiplier is one of the few global employment platforms that offer a dedicated Customer Success Manager to each client. They go out of their way to provide round-the-clock support due to the global nature of their operations.

About Multiplier

Multiplier was founded in Singapore in November 2020 by Amritpal Singh, Sagar Khatri, and Vamsi Krishna. Amritpal attended the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in the 2000s and previously worked with KPMG London as an external audit consultant. Vamsi and Sagar are graduates of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT). Vamsi was the head of product at Funding Societies (Southeast Asia’s largest digital financing platform), and Sagar most recently served as the VP of Corporate Development at Hmlet.

Multiplier is funded by 12 investors and have raised a total of $77.2 million in three funding rounds. The seed round was raised in July 2021 and was led by Surge – an Indian startup accelerator. A few months later, Sequoia Capital, India led the series A round of $13.2 million and subsequently led the series B round that brought the total investment to over $70 million.

These investments, according to Multiplier, are used to add more features to the platform. Just recently, they added the option to pay freelancers with cryptocurrency, for instance.
