Zoho Projects Review

Zoho is a provider of all sorts of business solutions that are affordable yet on par with the market’s leading offerings. Zoho Projects is another good example of this, as it’s a feature-rich, intuitive, and budget-friendly team collaboration and project management tool.

Depending on your plan, it can have all kinds of features derived from the project management essentials. For instance, the free plan does include a task management tool, and the premium plan adds subtasks, reminders, and timers to that same module.

A similar thing occurs with the Gantt chart generator. It’s read-only in the free plan, while the premium plan provides a Gantt chart for each project, and the enterprise plan gives you a global Gantt chart.

Other free features include basic task and issue reports, calendars, project feeds, and discussion forums. The more high-end features, on the other hand, can be as complex as global resource utilization, inter-project dependencies, and a portfolio dashboard where you can get something of a bird's-eye view of the stuff everyone’s working on.

Like all of their products, Zoho Projects is constantly evolving. Some newer features include setting up workflow and layout rules for the task manager. While the software has provided the possibility of inter-task dependencies for a while, this now allows to set such relationships even for unscheduled tasks. In other words, you can pre-define the relationship between certain types of tasks. Once you set a date to one to activate it, the tasks align themselves based on what you’ve set up.

This, of course, is just an idea of the type of project management you can do with the tool. Zoho Projects is full of such details. So, provided you put in the time and effort to set it up, it can adapt to your working culture, however complex or straightforward.

Overall, Zoho Projects stands out for having a wild range of features while remaining affordable. Notably, itt is also available in an impressive 17 languages. These include French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Russian, and Chinese, for instance.

Who shouldn't buy Zoho Projects

Companies looking for a more basic solution with less features but better UX might get easily frustrated with Zoho Projects, even with the free plan. Since the product is designed to house much more complex workflows and task relationships, it’s not the most intuitive and easy-to-use project management tool out there.

About Zoho Projects

The Zoho story goes back to 1996, with the founding of AdventNet Inc. Back then, the company made a network management tool that was popular internationally, but mainly in the Japanese market. Then, in 2001, they launched Zoho CRM, which quickly became one of their best-selling apps.

Then, in 2005, the company caught up with the times and started offering cloud-based applications. They began with the Writer app, then Show (a presentation tool), Creator (custom application builder), and Zoho Sheets. It wasn’t long until they realized that there could be a Zoho tool for just about every kind of business app. If you’re curious, the Zoho ‘about page’ actually has an interactive timeline where you can see the evolution of the company year to year.

Nowadays, Zoho has over 75 million users worldwide, several offices across the globe, and more than 50 products for marketing, finance, customer and tech support, team collaboration, and of course, HR and recruitment.
