Glassdoor Versus the Competition

True to its name, Glassdoor is a platform that fosters transparency. Employees can leave anonymous reviews for their workplaces, disclose the salary, and discuss the interview process. Companies with jobs posted on Indeed, i.e. Glassdoor’s sister company, will have their job listings aggregated over to Glassdoor.

Essentially a job search portal, TheMuse helps connect employers and employees who are aligned in terms of values. But that's not all. Employers can also discover key employee insights in order to improve their work culture.
Built In is a platform for tech companies to showcase their values and attract suitable candidates. Employers can make a profile for their company to list jobs and their benefits. What's interesting is that employees can filter jobs based on culture and value.
Pros
  • Their website is intuitive, user-friendly, and accessible on desktop and mobile devices.
  • Glassdoor lets you maintain brand consistency with integrated support for employer branding.
  • Employers can respond to user reviews directly on their profile.
  • The platform’s integrated analytics can provide key business insight and actionable data.
Cons
  • The pricing for Glassdoor’s premium offering isn't transparent and according to users we spoke to, is expensive compared to some of their competitors.
  • Employers can’t post jobs directly to the Glassdoor platform. They’ll have to first post them on Indeed, then Glassdoor will aggregate them from there,
  • According to users, the Glassdoor mobile app is rather clunky and difficult to use.
  • Since user reviews can be anonymous, employers aren’t able to identify legit reviews from fake ones posted by users who may not have even worked for their company.

Glassdoor Review

Glassdoor provides a basic job board that has listings from many different industries and companies located all around the globe. Unlike other job boards, however, Glassdoor aggregates all of their job listings directly from their sister company, Indeed.com. While this means that you can’t post open job listings and manage your applicants from one convenient dashboard, there are some benefits that might make it worth your time and money.

Apart from their online job board, Glassdoor offers employer branding, in-depth analytics, and reviews. Their AI-driven system, known as Review Intelligence, scans the reviews that have been left on your profile and transforms it into actionable data. It’s a unique feature that isn’t seen in other job boards to date, and the data it provides is usable when trying to identify your company’s strengths and weaknesses or when preparing executive summaries and reports.

Since reviews are such a big component of Glassdoor, it’s important to build connections with all potential candidates. Glassdoor lets you feature individual reviews, which lets you highlight case studies or testimonials, and you can respond to reviews in order to address issues and answer questions. If your profile is lacking in reviews, you can even request reviews directly from your current and past employees.

Glassdoor is a good option, especially when they do much of the work for you by automatically aggregating listings from Indeed.com. However, unless you specifically need their branding or analytics tools, there are other online job boards that provide a better feature set.

Who shouldn't buy Glassdoor

Glassdoor isn’t meant for users who want to post jobs and manage applicants from one site. It’s also not ideal for those who are trying to integrate HR or CRM software with their online job board.

Some of Glassdoor’s customers include Amazon, Dell, Capgemini, Icertis, Ring Central, and Sprout Social.

About Glassdoor

Originally launched in 2007, Glassdoor started out as a job board where employers can post jobs, but has since partnered with its sister company, Indeed.com, that’s now serving as the job posting site while Glassdoor only does the aggregation of those job posts, with added employer branding capabilities.

Between Glassdoor and Indeed.com, you’ll be able to reach 80% of all online job seekers in the United States. Their Employer Branding Hub helps you achieve brand consistency across both sites, and you’ll be able to utilize both channels to recruit and locate top talent for your next hiring campaign.
